Terms of Service
Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Declare, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Description of Service
Declare is a screen time intentionality tool for iOS. It uses Apple's Screen Time APIs to place shields on apps you select, prompting you to state your intent before access is granted. Declare tracks your goals, session durations, and completion status to help you build awareness of your app usage.
Declare is not a parental control tool, medical device, or therapeutic intervention. It does not guarantee reduced screen time or any specific behavioral outcome.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old and have the legal capacity to agree to these terms. By using Declare, you represent that you meet these requirements.
Accounts
Declare does not create accounts. There is no sign-up, login, or password. You are responsible for your device and any actions taken through the app on it.
Subscriptions and Billing
Declare offers a free tier and an optional paid subscription ("Declare Pro"). Subscriptions are purchased and managed entirely through the Apple App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account.
Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your device's Settings under your Apple ID. Refund requests should be directed to Apple.
We reserve the right to change subscription pricing or what is included in each tier. Changes to pricing will not affect active subscription periods.
Screen Time Permissions
Declare requires Screen Time authorization (FamilyControls) to function. You grant this permission voluntarily through the iOS system prompt. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device's Settings.
Declare's functionality depends on Apple's Screen Time APIs. We are not responsible for changes to these APIs, iOS updates that affect behavior, or any limitations imposed by the operating system.
User Conduct
Declare is intended for personal use. You may not use the app to circumvent parental controls set by another person, or in any manner that violates Apple's terms of service or applicable law.
Intellectual Property
The Declare name, design, content, and code are the property of the developer. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or distribute any part of the app.
Disclaimers
Declare is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that shields will activate or deactivate as expected in all circumstances. iOS updates, device restarts, or system changes may affect app behavior.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or damages arising from your use of or inability to use the app.
Total liability for any claim arising from these terms or use of the app shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $20 USD, whichever is greater.
Termination
You may stop using Declare at any time by deleting the app. We may discontinue the app or any feature at any time without notice. Active subscriptions will be honored through the end of the paid period.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be resolved in the courts located in California.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of Declare after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
