Privacy Policy

Overview

Declare is a screen time intentionality app for iOS built by an independent developer (Forrest). Declare helps you set goals before opening distracting apps. This policy explains what data exists and where it lives.

The short version: your data stays on your device. We do not operate servers, do not create accounts, and do not collect personal information.

Data We Collect

Declare does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. All data generated through your use of the app stays entirely on your device.

The app creates and stores the following data locally:

  • Goals you declare before opening an app
  • Session records (duration, completion status, timestamps)
  • App selection tokens (opaque identifiers provided by Apple)
  • Your preferences and settings

Screen Time Data

Declare uses Apple's FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, and DeviceActivity frameworks to place shields on apps you select. These APIs provide opaque application tokens that identify apps on your device.

We cannot see which apps you use, how often you use them, or any content within those apps. Apple's Screen Time tokens are processed entirely on-device and are never transmitted anywhere.

Subscription Data

Declare offers optional paid subscriptions processed through the Apple App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous app user ID and subscription status from Apple. We do not receive your name, email, payment method, or billing address through this service.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party. The only external service that receives any data is RevenueCat for subscription management, as described above.

Data Stored on Your Device

All goal text, session history, intent scores, app tokens, and preferences are stored in on-device databases (SwiftData) and local storage (UserDefaults within an App Group container).

Deleting the Declare app from your device permanently deletes all of this data. There is no backup, no cloud sync, and no way for us to recover it.

Children's Privacy

Declare is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children. Because Declare does not collect personal information from any user, no special measures are required under COPPA.

Your Rights

Because all data is stored exclusively on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can delete all data by deleting the app. There is no account to close, no data export to request, and no server-side records to erase.

Analytics and Tracking

Declare does not include any analytics frameworks, advertising SDKs, or tracking pixels. This website does not use cookies or analytics.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of Declare after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
